Description:
A magical vegetarian recipe book covering cuisines from many countries of the middle east. It is a re-print of Haroutunian’s original which was out of print for many years and thankfully has been brought back to print by Grub Street publishers providing all of us 250 fantastic recipes.
Review:
We were so happy to see this fantastic book returning to print. For a while the originals would fetch hundreds of pounds and this was simply due to the quality of recipes Haroutunian produced. His memory therefore lives on in these wonderful pages which show us the wonderful diversity of cuisines from the Middle East, a region which brings us a huge array of vegetarian delights.
This book has no pictures or indication of serving size, things which we would normally be very disappointed by, but in this case we would urge you to give it a go for the quality of the recipes inside, plus it was written in 1983 so we can excuse the lack of pictures which we would expect in books written today.
The recipes themselves are very well written and easy to follow. Many of the dishes sound very similar on paper, but when you try them out you will notice how very different they taste, it’s food alchemy.
In addition to recipes, Haroutunian gives a wonderful introduction to the Middle East with great stories and background information on the recipes and culture, a gem for the food enthusiast!
